Do you know what to do when this happens?

It’s Christmastime-a time for peace, family, and good feelings.  But, unfortunately, life can get in the way-we’ve spent 9 months with the CoVid and now we have this reminder…

This just happened today (Tues Dec 22nd) Train carrying crude oil derails, catches fire in Whatcom County (mynorthwest.com)

We have tracks right next to the marina with 50+ trains per day and a big curve at Golden Gardens.  Very long oil and coal trains transit our neighborhood. These wont go away as this is a major corridor of commerce, but…

Area you prepared?  Can you leave your slip on a moments notice?  Do your children know the procedure?  We’ve talked about this for years on this Blog with Shilshole Prepares and it is why we do our prep, our V-Man communication, and have regular discussion about this.

Put it on your list to discuss with your family in the new year.

Just a reminder-watch your speed!  Seaview Ave. (that runs from Golden Gardens to the Ballard Locks has now been posted as 25 mph as part of the City’s speed reduction of all streets.   Also changed to 25 mph is 32nd Ave on Sunset Hill from Red Mill Burgers to 85th.

Miris at Golden Gardens

from Shilshole Sheri…

Last Friday we ordered a dinner for four with our friends, at 6’ apart of course. Brisket Kebobs with a wonderful fresh Greek salad, rice and a very smooth and creamy hummus. Next time we’ll have to try the chicken. Everything was so tasty and served hot. Not to mention very ample portions too, so much that both couples were able to have some left overs. Which, I might add, were just as tasty on day two. Sweet Miri hand delivered the meal to the boat and with a smile, turned and ran off, no doubt to deliver more wonderful meals to other eagerly waiting appetites on other boats. You should take part in her food delivery, you’ll be glad you did.

Looking to buy live aboard sailboat this January

Hello aquatic folk!

My name is Mandy. I’m a sailor, musician, and Marine Affairs and Geology university student. I will be moving out to Seattle for graduate school this January and am looking for a sailboat to live on with my golden retriever, she is very used to living on boats and loves being on the water! Looking for a 27-32ft sailboat, sturdy enough for open ocean passages, with a transferable live aboard slip.

I thought this blog would be a great place to start (please correct me if I’m posting in the wrong place) as Shilshole Bay would be my ideal marina due to the strong community and sustainability values, as well as easy access to the Puget Sound and UW.

If anyone is looking to sell this winter or has any leads, please let me know. Advice is appreciated. Thanks in Advance. 🙂

Admin note:  Shilshole has a wait list for new liveaboards…it does not transfer with the boat. Contact the marina office for details.  Email: sbm@portseattle.org      Phone: 206-787-3006
