Earth Day -April 22nd

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated worldwide on April 22, to demonstrate support for environmental protection.  As boaters, with our close relationship to the water and its environs, this a great opportunity to review our boating habits and work with our neighbors to ensure that we all can enjoy cleaner water and air!

Some things to consider:

  • Keep your boat engine tuned up and operating properly to reduce smoke and oil discharge
  • Use environmentally safe soaps for cleaning the decks
  • Use tarps and vacuums to keep boat maintenance debris out of the water
  • Switch from zinc to aluminum anodes for your prop shaft/hull
  • Report all diesel spills immediately to the office so they can quickly be contained
  • Use the marina provided Haz Mat containers for old oil, gas, batteries, and coolant disposal
  • Keep your car tuned up and fix oil leaks so they don’t make their way from the parking lot to the marina waters

SWAP MEET this weekend!

FISHERIES SUPPLY SWAP MEET

April 9, 2022

A maritime flea market, full of boating goods, old parts, and new parts, outboards, buoys, dock line, coolers, heaters, chain, clothing, and so much more. Die-hard bargain boaters have been known to arrive the night before to stake out a good parking spot, although sellers are not allowed to use the lower tier of the upper parking lot (closest to the store entrance).

WA Boater’s Education Card

Published by under Cruising

Boaters in Washington need to have their Washington State Boater Education Card with them when operating a boat 15 horsepower or greater. Boat operators born before January 1,1955 are exempt but may choose to get a card if they plan to boat in Canada or Oregon since both require mandatory education.

There are several ways to take the exam, but probably the most convenient is The BoatUS online course.  It’s free and you can proceed at your own pace.
